How much does brand identity design cost?

Learn what shapes a brand identity budget and how to compare proposals by scope, deliverables and business needs.

Brand identity design costs depend on the business problem, the depth of the work and the applications the team needs to launch. A new venture and an established company with several product lines rarely need the same scope. Comparing two headline prices without comparing the work behind them can lead to a poor decision.

Start with what needs to be usable at the end of the engagement. This guide explains how to assess a proposal without treating a logo and a complete identity system as interchangeable services.

A logo and a brand identity are different scopes

A logo provides an identifying signature. A visual identity establishes how the brand communicates through colour, typography, layout, imagery and application rules. An engagement may also include research and brand direction. A proposal should name those activities rather than rely on “branding” as an umbrella label.

For example, a software company may need product screens, a sales presentation and launch communications to feel connected. Designing its logo alone does not establish that connection. A usable system takes the actual touchpoints into account.

What affects the cost of brand identity design?

  • Research: the audiences, competitors, interviews and existing materials that need attention.
  • Brand structure: one company, several products, sub-brands or regional business units.
  • Deliverables: logo variants, the visual system, guidelines and defined applications.
  • Rollout: production-ready files, team guidance and support for initial implementation.
  • Timing: deadlines, feedback availability, approval stages and revision rounds.

A business with clear positioning may need visual expression and implementation. Another may first need to clarify what it offers and whom it serves. That distinction should be visible in the scope, schedule and responsibilities.

Compare proposals on the same terms

Ask each studio to explain the discovery process, decision points, revision allowance and final handover. Check whether website design, presentation templates, packaging or social assets are included or treated as separate work. A longer deliverable list is not automatically better; it should reflect what your team will actually use.

For an international engagement, confirm the contract currency, payment milestones, working language and time-zone overlap. Tax treatment and invoicing depend on the parties and their locations; clarify those terms with the provider rather than assuming a headline price is the total payable amount.

Also ask about font licences, photography, print production and website development. These may sit outside the design fee. Clarify permitted uses of supplied assets and who will maintain the system after handover.

What to include in a quote request

Explain your offer, primary audience, current challenge and intended launch. Share existing materials, priority applications, approval stakeholders and the budget range you are comfortable discussing. A useful brief does not need a proposed design solution.

“We need two products to feel like one company” provides a clearer starting point than “make the brand look premium”. Specific business decisions help the studio propose appropriate work and avoid unnecessary deliverables.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a standard price? There is no single price that describes every scope. Compare equivalent deliverables and levels of involvement. This article is not a Wyra price list.

Can we launch with fewer applications? Yes. Prioritise the essential touchpoints and establish rules that can support later applications without rebuilding the identity.

Does identity design include a website? Only when that work is included in the proposal. Brand identity and digital design can share a direction while remaining distinct scopes.
